Technology Week a Success, thanks to RDO Equipment Co. & RDO Integrated Controls

During Central Lakes College’s Technology Week, students from the Heavy Equipment program received learning and hands-on experience on the latest equipment in the industry.

The week kicked off with Jay Mercer, General Manager of Technology Support, and his team at the RDOIC Solution Center, providing a 3-hour training on GPS modeling via Skype.

Afterwards, one of the instructors from Central Lakes College contacted Blair Scheibel, RDOIC Regional Sales Manager in Bloomington, and told him how great the presentation went and how appreciative they were for the information provided. “These types of experiences provide a good impression of RDO Equipment Co. to students who will soon be graduating and entering the workforce, and ensures that RDO Equipment Co. is on the top of the list to call when they need GPS equipment. Great job to Jay and his team!” commented Blair.

After learning about surveying and modeling, it was time to get in the dirt. The college works with multiple contractors and equipment suppliers who donate machines and volunteer their time for this one-day experience.

In total, there were 18 machines featuring technology available for students to demo – everything from excavators and scrapers to dozers and motor graders.

RDO Equipment Co. provided the use of a John Deere 700 SmartGrade dozer. Dan Dostal, Sauk Rapids Sales Professional, and Dan Rud, Burnsville – CE Equipment Specialist, donated their time. Each student received about an hour in a machine.

“The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive,” said Scott Weness, Burnsville – CE Sales Manager. “The students loved the experience of first learning about and then operating the latest technology in the industry. This is an event we are proud to support.”
